tate modern and us

I recently realised my little one is building a lovely history with the tate modern.. my daughter was with us in spirit at the gilbert and george exhibition..

she loved every minute of an early trip to the Rothko show

which child doesn't love skipping around the turbine hall

then she got a little bit older..

so she could do more..

that pleased her greatly (proud face)

so nowadays she runs there, excitedly

still loves the turbine - dances there..

she talks about the upbringing of Yayoi Kusama

..she (pleasingly!) wonders why, in those days, a woman couldn't be an artist in Japan and had to move to New York to do it..

long may her curiosity, her great relationship and happy times at the tate continue..

happy new year

Our little sausolito is growing fast. She chooses her own clothes and sometimes worries that she doesn't like pink, but she is only a little whippersnapper of 3 and a half, so I think she's got a pretty cool little look going on.

This skirt was her favourite for a while but now she's moved onto a totally plain black wool skirt. Maybe she'll grow up to be Johnny Cash.. who knows. And maybe if the wind changes her face will stay like that...

bunting and jack black

Christmas was a bit tough this year with our little one's health. So I haven't been able to work on any big projects... except all this bunting. It's everywhere now, hanging from lamps, over doors, chairs, pictures, dangling from ceilings, like a prettily coloured spider's nest.

My clients have been using them for dinner parties, birthday parties, and general prettification. I frequently supply props for their table settings and so on, so this has been an addition which they've happily used to adorn all variety of surfaces

And we'll just have to try and fight our way through this constantly growing jungle of bunty bubble bunting every day.

Currently, sausolito calls herself 'Jack Black Girl'. After seeing him on Yo Gabba Gabba, he's her God and after seeing that, who wouldn't agree..?

loo roll love

urban craft kindly left me a link to this paper sculpture by Anastassia Elias aka Chadou Yama (see above).

Of course I love it. Thanks urban craft for leaving a comment and for introducing me to this.

loo roll love & matsutake

in our house, we're rather partial to a bit of loo roll art..

actually, I just can't stop hoarding them, so we have something of a 'loo roll middle' mountain to work our way through..
I just stumbled upon the fab matsutake blog (see images below), which I found via bloesem kids

anyone who makes things with loo rolls is going to be popular in our house
I hope there are others out there

wee-wee girl

this week she's mainly been running to the front door to lock it and keep the tigers out... apparently there are lots of them outside and they might scare her

she dislocated her elbow last wednesday. Ouch. Then by sunday morning we were in hospital again, this time for an inhalor.. The way we get her to take it is this; when the birds sing their lovely songs, they leave beautiful words in the sky - that's what goes into the inhalor... and rainbows and clouds.. it's still a bit hit and miss so sleep is scarce and she's less boingy than normal.

yesterday morning she got up and named herself 'wee-wee girl'.. of all the super-powers to choose!

leaves and handles

Today my sweet little (two and a half yr old) girl told me that her hair was made of grapes and her knees were made of yoghurt.

Recently she's taken to eating the sky, which she tells me tastes of dreams sometimes.. computers other times.

She pulled my head to her face, sniffed my hair and told me it smells of leaves and handles.
